If a patient is suffering from periodontal disease, a possible treatment is LANAP. LANAP stands for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, and is a highly effective, minimally invasive method for disinfecting and repairing diseased gums.

Receding gums

As gum disease progresses, the connective tissues between your gums and teeth are damaged or destroyed, and the gums pull away from the teeth. This results in deep pockets around the teeth which provide shelter for bacteria. Because this worsening infection continues to irritate the gums and cause more and more damage, diseased periodontal pockets create a self-sustaining cycle which can destroy the tissues around your teeth and result in tooth loss. To prevent this, the infection must be cleaned out, and the gums must be allowed to heal.

Old and new

In the past, periodontal pockets would have been repaired using periodontal flap surgery. Like most surgical procedures, periodontal flap surgery involves incisions, sutures, and a long healing period. LANAP offers a faster, less invasive alternative which is faster to heal and significantly less painful. We use precise strokes of the laser to remove diseased tissue and destroy pockets of infection, leaving only healthy gum tissue ready to reattach to your newly-cleaned teeth. LANAP is the most advanced treatment currently available for periodontal disease.LANAP

Comfortable and safe

Our specialized surgical laser is approved for use in periodontal cleaning and reattachment, and is a reliable instrument in the fight against gum disease. Unlike traditional methods, LANAP requires no incisions or sutures, allowing you to keep more of your original gum tissue and leading to faster healing times. Our patients report little or no pain, as well as minimal swelling. In a single visit, we can promote the healing and rejuvenation of your entire gumline. LANAP may even promote future regrowth of deteriorated bone without the use of a bone graft. From every angle, laser gum treatment is an improvement upon traditional surgical methods.
